Executive Committe Meeting
Stony Brook Camera Club
October 10, 2007
Held at the home of President, Shiv Verma.
Present were, Don Plouffe, Treasurer, Glenn Browning, Vice
President, Brenda Cleveland, Secretary, Dan Charbonnet and
Paul Burke.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
First order of business was membership and dues. At present
we have 150 paid members with 6 people that have sent
checks, bringing the total to 156. For the past several
meetings we have had 85 members in attendance. So do we keep
the number of members at 165 or cap at 156? If we let more
members in we must count as two for our Christmas party,
which could cause a problem for space. Shiv made a motion to
cap membership at 165. Don would like to cap at 160.
The motion passed unanimously at 160.
Second order of business was a new club logo. Shiv made a
motion to replace the old image of the camera and replace it
with a more modern version . Also the new membership cards
will have the new logo along with the name badges.
Motion passed unanimously.
It was also discussed that the members will be responsible
for their own badges and possibly pay a $1.00 fine for not
wearing them to meetings. No answer at this time.
The subject of a new projector was discussed. The cost will
be $ 2,800.00 This will go before the membership for
approval. Shiv is looking at a 1440 x 1050 - SX50.
We have purchased a new viewing screen for $500.00. The
Senior Center has no problem with us putting up the screen.
Shiv will look into the building permit and how we can
support the screen. Installation will be free due to the
help of members. A discussion followed about whether we can
afford a new projector.
The budget was discussed and Don will redo the budget for
present totals. It was mentioned about fund raising, but
nothing was decided.
Other pending items: Field trips. Shiv will talk to Jim to
see if one of the committee members will take over this job.
Finalize slide rules, Shiv will remove this statement
indicating “Awaiting Final Approval” from the web site.
There was much discussion about Stony Brook hosting the
International competition. Dan explained in detail all that
is involved in putting on such an event. He expects that for
the first year we will probably break even. Dan wanted to
work with Shiv on the site before he makes a proposal. A
motion was made by Shiv to host and run SBCC International
in the calendar year 2008. Amended by Dan to host in
2008/2009 of club year.
Passed unanimously.
Shiv spoke about doing a portrait shoot for the seniors as a
community involvement. A special interest group will meet
after the meeting on Thursday. Jim Barbieri will run this
group.
Paul spoke about members asking what category they should be
in for example B,A, AA? or bring in a portfolio for
the committee to review and vote on.
Don spoke about the membership application on the web should
be the same as the paper copy.
Meeting adjourned at 8:41 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, Brenda Cleveland
