Welcome To The Stony Brook Camera Club

For over 50 years SBCC's mission statement has been “To promote enjoyment and proficiency in all aspects of photography through education, fellowship, exchange of knowledge and experience; and a broad appreciation of nature and environment.”  SBCC includes and welcomes members of all abilities. Whether a casual smartphone shooter or an advanced photographer, everyone grows in knowledge and experience through SBCC’s many programs and workshops.

The Stony Brook Camera Club meets virtually on Thursdays at 6:30 PM for a social hour and 7:30 for the program from September to June. See our calendar for the schedule of events. Our meetings feature competitions, speakers, image studies and discussions of general interest. We also sponsor a number of image-taking activities all year. Anyone is welcome to attend and experience what we are about, although participation in competitions and our many activities requires membership (see the Membership menu item in the Main Menu above).

We hope you enjoy this site and your time with us all.

June 6th - Franklin - Women vs Men Photo Challenge

Submit images by May 31, 2024

On January 25, 2025, women club members were paired with a male club member, and the two were randomly assigned a category. You may interpret the category as you wish, and you can use images taken at any date. Images must be submitted by May 31, 2024 at midnight (submission instructions will be sent out before then).

The Challenge will be held on June 6, 2024 both at the Church and on Zoom. Women images will be shown side-by-side with their male counterpart, where 2 judges (one female, one male) will evaluate and pronounce the winner. The overall Women vs Men winner will be tabulated and announced at the end of the evening.

Upcoming Workshops

RESCHEDULED!!!  Night Photography Field Session with Mark Bowie-Saturday, June 8th 2024 from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM

There are now more openings! Several spots have become available.

Night photography specialist Mark Bowie will lead a field trip to photograph nightscapes at East Brimfield Lake (about one hour from Franklin) and possibly nearby ponds, including Long Pond and Holland Pond. Mark plans to stay until at least 11pm, so those wanting to stay longer are welcome.  He will demonstrate field techniques and provide hands-on instruction for determining nighttime exposures, focusing in the dark, shooting the Milky Way, star trails, and “painting” with artificial light.  Possible night sky targets include Orion and the Winter Circle, the northern arm of the Milky Way, and other stars and nebulae.  Come explore the mystery, wonder and magic of the landscape at night.

$32 per member

Registration is open now.
