Welcome to the Stony Brook Camera Club
For over 50 years SBCC's mission statement has been “To promote enjoyment and proficiency in all aspects of photography through education, fellowship, exchange of knowledge and experience; and a broad appreciation of nature and environment.”
SBCC includes and welcomes members of all abilities. Whether a casual smartphone shooter or an advanced photographer, everyone grows in knowledge and experience through SBCC’s many programs and workshops.
The Stony Brook Camera Club meets in-person and/or virtually on Thursdays at 7:30pm from September to June. In-person social hour begins at 6:30pm and zoom social hour is 7:00pm. In person meetings are held at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 195 Main St, Franklin, MA. See our calendar for the schedule of events. Our meetings feature competitions, speakers, image studies and discussions of general interest. We also sponsor a number of photography activities all year.
Anyone is welcome to attend and experience what we are about, although participation in competitions and our many activities requires membership (see the Membership menu item in the Main Menu above).

Landscape photography is one of the most difficult types of photography to master. And near-far, "grand landscape" style images are especially challenging. Pro landscape photographer Ian Plant presents his simple, 5-step process for taking stunning landscape images that stand out and get noticed. You'll learn about landscape composition, creative use of light and weather, and achieving the "deep focus" effect which renders everything from near to far in stunningly sharp detail.
Bio:
Whether hanging over the rim of an active volcano or braving the elements to photograph critically endangered species, Ian Plant has spent the past two decades traveling the globe in his never-ending quest to capture the beauty of our world with his camera. Ian has reached hundreds of thousands of people in his mission to inspire and educate others in the art of photography. Ian is the author of dozens of books and instructional videos, an instructor for KelbyOne and other photography education outlets, and founder of Photo Masters, a site dedicated to photography education and inspiration.

September 24, 2026 - Simplified Macro Photography with Dave DeMarco at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer and on Zoom
This presentation will be aimed at simplifying the art of macro photography. You will learn practical and technical skills to successfully capture the intricate textures, shapes and details found throughout nature, making macro photography much more approachable and enjoyable. We will cover all the essentials from gear, camera settings, composition and light, giving you the skills to create striking close-up images.
Bio:
Dave is a Rhode Island–based, award-winning, and published fine art nature photographer. A natural teacher and mentor, Dave is passionate about both the technical craft and artistic expression of photography. In addition to his own workshops and online learning experiences through Osprey Winds Photography, he also teaches field workshops and co-leads the mentorship program at BlueHour Photo Ventures. Dave currently serves as President of the Photographic Society of Rhode Island.
Whether teaching online or in the field, Dave enjoys helping photographers develop both foundational and advanced skills in areas such as composition, landscape fieldcraft, and seeing in monochrome. His approach encourages photographers to slow down, observe more intentionally, and grow with confidence over time. Dave believes technical mastery creates the freedom to grow, explore, and discover your artistic voice over a lifetime of learning.

Multi-Club Competition 2027
You can start shooting for the 2027 Multi-Club competition now! Members may choose to submit two digital photographic images taken between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027 in any or all of the eight categories. Categories are:

Our award-winning newsletter, Reflections, has been in existence since September 2003. You can check out past issues HERE.

Any members not comfortable attending will always have the option of joining remotely via Zoom or a similar streaming format.
