Welcome to the Stony Brook Camera Club
For over 50 years SBCC's mission statement has been “To promote enjoyment and proficiency in all aspects of photography through education, fellowship, exchange of knowledge and experience; and a broad appreciation of nature and environment.”
SBCC includes and welcomes members of all abilities. Whether a casual smartphone shooter or an advanced photographer, everyone grows in knowledge and experience through SBCC’s many programs and workshops.
The Stony Brook Camera Club meets in-person and/or virtually on Thursdays at 7:30pm from September to June. In-person social hour begins at 6:30pm and zoom social hour is 7:00pm. In person meetings are held at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 195 Main St, Franklin, MA. See our calendar for the schedule of events. Our meetings feature competitions, speakers, image studies and discussions of general interest. We also sponsor a number of photography activities all year.
Anyone is welcome to attend and experience what we are about, although participation in competitions and our many activities requires membership (see the Membership menu item in the Main Menu above).

Their beauty, grace and color make flowers many photographers’ favorite subject. The photographer’s challenge is to use light to bring out the texture, shape and form to tell their story. The portable flash is a powerful device that helps us control the impact of our images but not everyone knows how to use it well. Bobbi will show you how to use just one flash, both off and on the camera to make your flower images glorious. She takes you step by step through the creative process of deciding the feeling of the photo and then choosing appropriate light modifiers. Bobbi explains the process and demonstrates some simply techniques that anyone can do in their own home or in the field. Also covered is how to focus bracket.
How to use your flash effectively in four different ways. She will cover flash as main light in a studio setting, outdoor fill flash, balancing ambient and flash outdoors, as well as focus stacking.
BIO: Bobbi Lane is an award-winning commercial photographer and educator specializing in creative portraits both on location and in the studio. Known as the "Mistress of Light," she combines technical mastery with artistic vision, teaching workshops worldwide and leading inspiring travel photo tours. Her excellence in teaching was recognized by Photo District News, naming her one of the top workshop instructors. Bobbi is passionate about empowering photographers to elevate their craft, and her presentations and workshops are both entertaining and educational.

Multi-Club Competition May 13, 2026
The 7th Annual Multi-Club Competition will be hosted online on May 13, 2026. Members may choose to submit two digital photographic images taken between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026 in any or all of the eight categories.
