Welcome to the Stony Brook Camera Club

For over 50 years SBCC's mission statement has been “To promote enjoyment and proficiency in all aspects of photography through education, fellowship, exchange of knowledge and experience; and a broad appreciation of nature and environment.”

SBCC includes and welcomes members of all abilities. Whether a casual smartphone shooter or an advanced photographer, everyone grows in knowledge and experience through SBCC’s many programs and workshops.

The Stony Brook Camera Club meets in-person and/or virtually on Thursdays at 7:30pm from September to June. In-person social hour begins at 6:30pm and zoom social hour is 7:00pm.  In person meetings are held at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 195 Main St, Franklin, MA.  See our calendar for the schedule of events. Our meetings feature competitions, speakers, image studies and discussions of general interest. We also sponsor a number of photography activities all year.

Anyone is welcome to attend and experience what we are about, although participation in competitions and our many activities requires membership (see the Membership menu item in the Main Menu above).

We hope you enjoy this site and your time with us all.

The Slideshow to the right features Winning Images from our 2025-2026 Competitions.

September 25, 2025 - The Color of Water with Tony Sweet presented on Zoom

The Color of Water is unique as it consists of over 100 images of colorful reflections in water from throughout the country. It is also the culmination of my 30 year project of discovering, visiting, and revisiting some of the most striking examples of color in nature. Exploring numerous reflection situations, we’ll explore and illustrate what to look for, how to get the most out of the reflected area; unusual conditions and how to be aware of them; as well as compositional ideas; Interpretation; long exposures, and much more.

BIO: Coming from an artistic background as a professional jazz artist and professional close up magician (sleight of hand artist), to professional nature/ fine art photographer, Tony has always sought creative, deeply personal endeavors. The transition from jazz artist to nature photographer was a seamless transition as both require an improvisational nature and an ability to adapt to quickly changing conditions.

Tony was named a Nikon Legend Behind the Lens and has been published worldwide for over 35 years. He has authored 8 books, contributing to many others, co-produced an educational DVD series, and continues to teach and lecture throughout the US, Canada, Iceland, and Cuba. His article on macro photography was published in the New York Times.
